The Mölllerei was once the place for storing the fuels and minerals necessary for the continuous supply of the blast furnaces that processed the metals to be transformed into steel. The silos, rails and conveyor belts of its interior architecture have been preserved to bear witness to its industrial past. However, today – thanks to the vision behind Esch European Capital of Culture 2022 and Fonds Belval – Mölllerei has become an exhibition space for showcasing contemporary artworks in dialogue with the history of this building and its unique atmosphere. As well as serving as a reflection on the future of our planet, a visit to an exhibition here will be something of an experience. In fact, Earthbound – In Dialogue with Nature, the first exhibition to come here after the renovation, has been designed with the complex relationship between human activity and the earth’s ecosystems in mind.
